Indigo Bunting ♂

Almost as BLUE as Joni Mitchell’s 1971 song/album by the same name, but not quite, is the Indigo Bunting. When these guys drop in it’s as if a sapphire gift from heaven was served up for a quick glance – and poof – they’re gone. There is something about that blue… in every hue of the blue range that takes my breath away. I did a painting of a (dead) Indigo Bunting that washed up on the beach at High Island, TX, and spent literally dozens of hours working on it, and can say with some certainty that the luminous quality of all those blues are beyond the mere paint on a palette.

Well, enough of all that…. this week I popped out for a short sit in my photo blind and this bird dropped in for a quick bath.
